Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao asserted on Tuesday that he would resign from his post if Prime Minister Narendra Modi proved his claims of allocating ₹35,000 crore to Telangana.
Demanding Mr. Modi’s apology to the people of Telangana, the TRS president faulted the Prime Minister for misleading the people during his election speeches in the State. Telangana is a surplus State and it is one of the few States that sustains the Central government and not vice versa, he claimed.
“Of the ₹1 lakh crore that is sent from Telangana to the Centre, only ₹25,000 crore is sent back to State by way of various accounts,” Mr. Rao pointed out. The TRS president was here in Warangal city to campaign for the party’s Lok Sabha candidate Pasunuri Dayakar. Stating that he does not have any ambition to become Prime Minister, Mr. Rao said his desire was to ensure victory of the people of the country.
“The country, under both the Congress and BJP rule for 70 years failed to make optimum utilisation of resources such as water and power. So, there is a need for a federal front that protects the interests of the States and the nation as a whole,” he opined.
Within five years of Telangana State formation, it has witnessed good development, particularly in the power sector. It is the only State giving 24-hour free power to the farming sector. On the welfare front, Telangana stands at the top in the country, claimed Mr. Rao.
New Revenue Act
The State government is contemplating to bring out a new Revenue Act in two months and find a solution to all land related problems once and for all. “I will personally supervise the entire operation and this is my promise,” Mr Rao told the gathering.
He urged the people to vote for TRS and give its candidates a huge majority once again for the benefit of the State and the country.
Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, MLAs N. Narender, D. Vinay Bhaskar and Ch. Dharma Reddy and MLC K. Srihari, MPs V. Laxmikantha Rao and B. Prakash were among those present.
