The first thing that’s guaranteed to wow diners at Wasabi is the view, stretching seamlessly over the early 20th-century Gateway of India. Wasabi has reclaimed its position as India’s favourite Japanese restaurant. Its dark wood space is home to dishes inspired by Masaharu Morimoto of Iron Chef fame. To cater for Mumbai’s large vegetarian population, Wasabi offers a range of fish-less and meat-less dishes such as yose dofu, creamy tofu served with freshly grated wasabi and kabocha roulette – a soy-glazed burdock root with chilli spiced ponzu sauce.
Standout dish: Steamed crab with aged Shaoxing wine and chicken oil
