Rabeth-KhanIt takes a little more than just a dream to surmount resistance in life, it takes sheer persistence, and one man who has shown mettle as firm is Shri Jaiprakash Gaur. Founder and Chairman of the Jaypee Group, Shri Gaur has been one of the most successful spearheads
across global landscapes and a witness to all the triumphs his dream has earned over the course of time. It was the conviction that this man had borne in his heart which translated into the birth of a new dynamic enterprise with a small capital of INR 10,000/- but with a
steadfast determination to contribute to nation building. The main reason behind this success was the experience he gained during his work in the Irrigation Department of Uttar Pradesh for 7 years, which convinced Shri Gaur that if major construction projects, particularly River-Valley and Hydropower projects could be undertaken efficiently with regard to quality, technology, time and cost, this would act as catalyst in building India’s much needed infrastructure.

Some of their greatest contributions have been the Sardar Sarovar Dam (India’s largest dam with 7.2 million cum. of chilled concrete, larger by 75% in terms of volume than “Bhakra Nangal Dam”), Tehri Rockfill Dam (Asia’s largest Rockfill Dam) and Nathpa Jhakri (The largest underground Power House in India.) all thanks to his constant efforts of establishing excellence as his unassailable ally. He is not only acknowledged for building concrete structures but also lives. With a firm belief in ‘development with a human face’, Shri Gaur has established 28 schools in the backward districts of the country, enrolling 30,000 students. In an ambitious expansion of his education programme, the Jaiprakash Sewa Sanasthan (JSS) proposes to establish many institutions by 2014, which will have an enrolment of 2 lakh students. Shri. Gaur has been honored with a D.Sc. by Bundelkhand University in the year 1997 in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the field of Engineering and Technology and a Doctorate of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in the year 2009.

The President of India had nominated Shri Jaiprakash Gaur as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee for 3 years in 2005 and again in 2008.

He had his company’s cable address as “IRONWILL”, way back in early sixties. Shri Gaur has come a long way working on the clarion call of the India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru when he famously termed the Bhakra – Nangal Project as a temple of modern India.
