JSW Energy is one of India’s premier integrated power companies, having installed capacity of 4531MW (Thermal ‐3140 MW and Hydro – 1391 MW). With efficient operations, stringent Corporate governance and a clear vision, JSW Energy is setting benchmarks in the power sector.

What is the big idea behind your business?
To make a significant contribution towards the goal of 24×7 power for all Indians.

It’s often said that leaders these days must operate in an environment of extreme volatility. Do you agree? How does that affect the way you lead?
In today’s ever changing market conditions of extreme volatility, a leader not only requires to be action oriented, driven and collaborative but also needs to be innovative, influential and resilient. We need leaders, who not only think out‐of‐the box but can also successfully implement that thought through actions. People who can act dynamically, responding to volatility while taking along the entire organization and develop a sense of belongingness and ownership within each employee.

A satisfied customer is the best business strategy of all. What is your prime focus for retaining customers?
In power sector, the best business strategy is to provide reliable and affordable power to our ultimate customer – the consumer. Optimum utilization of our power plants with higher efficiency and reliability remains our prime focus for retaining customers.

What was your first paying job?
I had started my career with JSW Steel Limited, as Head of Corporate Affairs in New Delhi.

Do you have a formal mechanism for making sure you stay in touch with employees and customers on the organization’s front line?
In our organization, we have created different forums where we interact with employees on a regular basis. Besides, periodical visits to the plant locations without keeping any barrier to employees who are keen to meet, provides open access to them to meet me during my plant visits. We remain in constant touch with our customers and different stakeholders and meet them as per mutual convenience and requirement. Attending sector specific seminars & conferences as Speaker or Guest also enables me to remain in touch with many of them.

What is the best business advice you’ve ever heard?
Never get hogged down with failures. Consistent efforts & passionate attempts will definitely lead to success one day.

What has surprised you about being an entrepreneur?
Nothing.

What strategies do you use in terms of planning your personal career progression?
Quick aggressive decision making with high risk appetite. Set yourself aggressive targets and then shine to achieve them.
