Sanjay Kalirona, CEO & Director, COMIO Smartphone
From my personal learnings and experience, I would recommend that both technology companies and the government support each other with relaxation of laws, ease of doing business and launching newer and innovate products as the industry is on an upward trajectory. What are the breakthrough Ideas that you suggest to India in your industry?
The mobile phone industry is a very innovative segment and the smartphone is becoming the standard configuration among the different types of mobile devices. Technical change and new product proliferation have made this industry extremely dynamic. From my personal learnings and experience, I would recommend that both technology companies and the government support each other with relaxation of laws, ease of doing business and launching newer and innovate products as the industry is on an upward trajectory.
What innovations are you getting in your industry for a better Indian economy?
We intend to focus more on agility and learning than on forecasting and planning. Our COMIO Smartphone’s channel strategy is a vital part of the growth plan. With a network of partners, the focus is in reaching out to the consumers across the country. COMIO thrives on its ability to constantly innovate and challenge market dynamics. The company will have a suite of novel marketing plans in its roster, and will aim to focus more actively on after-sales service for its customers.
The demand for smartphones is growing exponentially in India especially in Tier II and III markets. Local smartphone manufacturing will contribute sizable growth of companies in India and the growth of the nation as well.
Define your leadership style and role.
As a CEO of an emerging smartphone brand in India, building a team of trustworthy and loyal employees is important to us. I have always believed that having an open culture with your employees is critical as the positive criticism and feedback from my team will only help the company grow. I am unlike most leadership professionals that work with a close set of department heads, instead I like to get on the employee floor and know what’s going on, be a part of different ideation phases, interact with our network of distributors to understand their ways of working etc.
Breakthrough ideas from you.
At COMIO, we want to continue to bring innovations in design and outlook. If you look at our foray into the Indian market, we did not follow a traditional format, we closely studied the best possible combinations that would work for our brand.
Rather than launching online we focused on strengthening our offline presence, we want our consumers to be able to experience our products. Tier II and III markets were extremely critical for us, hence our marketing campaigns also complemented this strategy. After-sales continues to be a pain point among consumers therefore me made sure we support our smartphones with effective and attractive after sales offerings. This is the kind of confidence that we want to continue to offer to our consumers and showcase our commitment and vision to the country.
Suggestions for a Better India.
It is an exciting time for us as the smartphone market is growing at a rapid pace. With the government’s push towards ‘Make in India’, more and more companies are investing in India and manufacturing locally. The continued support of the government will help grow this industry further and bring it closer to building a complete manufacturing eco-system.
