60-Samit-RayLeveraging his teaching skills to help government job aspirants crack various competitive exams, Samit Ray founded Roy’s Institute of Competitive Examination or the RICE Group in the Indian state of West Bengal in the year 1985. RICE Group has emerged as a name of trust for all those who aspire to enter government services.

Samit Ray showed the attributes of a leader from the beginning of his professional journey. He was instrumental in setting and managing the franchisee operations of Computer Maintenance Corporation in Eastern India during its initial days in 1992. But it was the RICE Group with which Samit Ray established himself as a true visionary for making government jobs accessible to the masses.

He had a flair for solving complex mathematical and geometrical problems. In 1984, he taught mathematics to a group of students for cracking an exam for government job openings. Out of the 40 students trained by him, 38 cracked the exam. Enthused by the success, he planned to set up an institute to train government job aspirants.

Starting its journey with just a single classroom and a bunch of students in northern fringes of Kolkata, RICE Group today is a brand to reckon with. Around 80,000 candidates have managed to secure government jobs, thus benefitting from the expertise of the RICE Group in guiding candidates for competitive exams. It now has a large footprint in West Bengal.

His other interests are in the fields of IT, advertising and real estate. In 2001, he established Rice Infotech Education in Kolkata. The institute offers programmes in IT, IT Enabled Services, multimedia, hardware and networking. Many of its programmes are affiliated to the West Bengal State Council for Technical Education.

Sensing that the North 24 Parganas district doesn’t have enough educational facilities, Samit Ray started the Adamas International School in the year 2004. His next venture was the Adamas Knowledge City at Barasat, Kolkata. An educational township with a variety of learning centres from play school to post-graduation college, Adamas Knowledge City has a sprawling campus stretching over an area of 100 acres. Its flagship institutes include Adamas Institute of Technology, Adamas World School and Adamas Institute of Professional Training. Adamas Knowledge City has plans to open a law college, a management college, a dental college, a nursing college and a medical college in the near future.
