Poorva Joshipura, 39, is Vice President of International Operations with PETA Foundation, the UK affiliate of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and Chief Executive Officer of PETA India. Joshipura graduated magna cum laude from Old Dominion University in Virginia, USA in 1998.
Campaigns Joshipura has run and led span all areas of PETA UK and PETA India’s work including helping stop cruelty to animals used for meat, leather, experimentation and entertainment. These campaigns have been widely covered by major British and Indian media, as well as media internationally. Joshipura is a regular guest on television news and radio shows through which she encourages viewers and listeners to take actions to help stop cruelty to animals.
For her work for animals, Joshipura was honoured with a Women Achievers Award, which was presented by the Young Environmentalists Programme Trust. Under her leadership, PETA India has won IPE Corporate Excellence Award for NGO Excellence while a member of her staff was honoured with the Shining World Hero Award by Master Ching Hai, a world renowned humanitarian, peacemaker and environmentalist.
