The irony of simplicity is that it is way more enduring than the most adorned façade of any man’s face. An exemplar of the same would be N.R. Narayana Murthy. A luminary for millions, a trendsetter, a prudent mind with a chaste heart, a dreamer, an intellect – all these qualities define him and his creation, Infosys Limited, founded in 1981. He embraced the chairmanship of the board from 2002 to 2006, after which he became the Non-Executive Chairman and Chief Mentor of the Indian IT major. Later, in the year 2011, the industry witnessed a poignant sight – Narayana Murthy retired completely and took the Chairman Emeritus title. In 2013, however, he returned as Executive Chairman to take Infosys to greater heights in times of trouble.
It was the diligence of this man that made his dream come alive. His perseverance made his dream so big that on this date, Infosys is one of the foremost Indian companies to be listed on NASDAQ. If today, one is to ask him about his belief, he would say, “I’m a capitalist in mind, a socialist at heart.” It was this very belief of his in the distribution of wealth that made Infosys one of the first Indian companies to offer employees stock option plans. Infosys now has 400 employees who are dollar millionaires. His wisdom has never failed to provide relief from market challenges. He was the name behind articulating, designing and implementing the Global Delivery Model for IT services outsourcing from India.
Asia’s Most Promising salutes this man’s business genius and how he soothes hearts of all those who stand under his shade.
