India is a vibrant country with a rich culture and has all the right ingredients for Exponential growth through its large consuming population, skilled labour, unique heritage, and growing market. For me, it is this diversity which gives us ample opportunities of ‘Winning in Many India” by leveraging the potential of its vast markets by developing unique business models that address consumer needs and converts the quantum of challenges into opportunities; in other words, creating a chain reaction of multiple atoms leading to Exponential growth.

  • What innovations are you getting in your industry for a better Indian economy?

 

The Raymond brand has an enviable & very rich legacy of over 90 years.  It has been on the forefront of redefining Fashion and Technology by bringing innovative products to the consumer. As part of category leadership, we are leading the Revival of the Tailoring profession & building the first of its kind Tailoring Ecosytem by reaching over 100000 tailors.  Our strategy is built on four pillars of growth internally referred to as 4Cs (Capability, Capacity, Connect and Consumer). This translates in to a robust framework starting from a Skill Development program for the tailors that assesses present skill levels, imparts skilling and upskilling training, provides quality infrastructure, develop better working environment, sustainable and enhanced income with social security for Tailors and most important improved customer satisfaction leading to increase in fabric sales. To enable this, we have set up the first of its kind Centre of Tailoring Excellence in Thane.

We have set up over 20 Tailoring Hubs across India creating employment opportunity and improving their livelihood through enhanced earnings (2x growth in wages).

Launch of Tailoring Online Service is another leap wherein customers can avail tailoring services at their doorstep wherein they can buy fabric or use their own fabric to customize their garment from comfort of their home.  

The inverted pyramid shift from Control to Empowerment of the Frontline teams has created a new culture of ownership at the Retail stores whereby our frontline teams now create & deploy Local Store Marketing campaigns that ensures there is a sustained marketing buzz in their catchments. Through our empowerment program of frontline teams, we have seen a surge in the number of activations by multiple folds – epitomizing Moonshot approach of ‘think 10x and not 10%’ (from 621 activations a year we now trending at 8000+ activations)

Taking ahead the thought of Winning in Many India and bringing alive immersive Raymond Retail Experience across emerging towns (Class 4 & 5), we have embarked on the journey of Retail expansion by leveraging our expertise of nurturing and crafting agile business models for entrepreneurial franchisees through our new retail format called Mini TRS. Within 8 months, have crossed milestone of launching 50 Mini TRS, making this one of the fastest retail store roll out in the Fashion & Lifestyle retail category.

In today’s VUCA World (we define it a little differently – Vibrant, Unreal, Crazy, Astounding) with our businesses & societies getting collaborative, well connected, adaptive and data centric it calls for dynamic leadership.  Today’s decision-makers are often confined with linear thinking. They need to now focus on strategic thinking driven by disruptive & innovative ideas. My role is to inculcate ‘Change Leadership’ practices which emphasize on dynamic leadership, skills enhancement and cultivate a culture of empowerment, experimentation, innovation leading to continuous learning. For me the new age leader is less about an individual but more about bringing true collaborative culture within cross functional teams.

In this age of driving Exponential growth – agility, entrepreneurial mindset, curiosity, imagination and digital coherence are some of the new age skills sets for the team that I continue to mentor. I firmly believe that to become the best at anything, you have to learn continuously and I follow the same ritual with a motto “I am in this with you’!

Build a sustainable tailoring ecosystem leading to development of karigars (workers), nurturing entrepreneurship and most importantly providing the world class quality to the discerning customers through which we can double the earning capacity of our tailors and improve their livelihoods.  Further, the Online Tailoring business will continue to fuel the demand generation for fabric and tailoring business leading to the unprecedented growth in the overall category and Tailoring ecosystem.

Our asset-lite & agile business model of our new Retail stores (MINI TRS) is gaining momentum amongst entrepreneurial and like-minded franchisees. These are now beacon of new businesses in the emerging markets – Winning in Many India

    The trends will have to be set by leaders and followed by its peers, to unleash it the model will haveto be at times revisited and Raymond is really nailing into it. Hope you guys create more values in the process then volumes.
