Mr Suntook is a descendant of a distinguished line of lawyers. His father Mr. Nariman Suntook was the Solicitor to the Govt of India, and served as an independent director on several of the most prominent Companies of India. Mr Suntook, has been a distinguished National Standard Tennis player, placidly holding several prestigious titles. He served on the Council of the Bombay Tennis association and the President of the Tata Sports Club for several years.
After completing his education, Mr Khushroo Suntook became one of the founders of the Italian Mineral Water Company in India Bisleri (India) Pvt Ltd. Later, he joined the House of Tata where he served in several senior capacities for 32 years. He was Director on the Boards of the Tata Oil Mills, Tata Finance Ltd, Tata Investment Corporation, Lakme Ltd, Tata McGraw Hill Ltd and more. He served as a Chairman of audit, finance and remuneration committees in several Companies.
He was chosen by the founder and creator of The NCPA Mumbai, Dr Jamshed Bhabha as his successor acknowledging authority particularly on Western Classical Music.
He is the founder of the first ever fully professional orchestra in India, the Symphony Orchestra of India. This daring move was received with scepticism, but has turned out phenomenally eminent. Apart from 20 seasons in Mumbai, it has started touring, and has already performed in Russia, Oman, Abu Dhabi, etc. The orchestra has received fulsome praise from the conservative Swiss press attracting top class musicians internationally.
He also commissioned a tabla concerto to be composed by Zakir Hussain and played in the same concert along with the Bartok Concerto for Orchestra, premiered in London at the Royal Festival Hall in 2016.
A rare combination of both knowledge of Western Classical music and his wide connections in the world of the performing arts allied to sound business sense is a rather rare combination.
