Kangana Ranaut is showing the industry that she isnt any less than a superhero of Bollywood
2015 started off on a languid note as quite a few big banner films came to naught in attracting the moviegoers. However, the dry spell at the ticket windows ended with Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited action thriller Baby. Thereafter many films high on content came out and impressed the critics and audience alike. But there were few which literally rocked the box office, one of them being TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS.
Made on a budget of 30 crore, the film was distributed in 2,200 screens in India and 350-odd screens abroad. It wasn’t surprising the movie manage to get cash registers jingling with its strong brand equity, positive word of mouth and felicitous marketing. TWMR had engaging script, witty screen play, novelty factor with subtlety and humour projected just in right amount through publicity establishing the just wanted impression.
After witnessing a great opening, Kangana starrer went on to become the first film of this year to enter the 100 crore club. In fact, this romantic comedy will be the first one to surpass the Rs 150 crore at the domestic box office as well. TWMR has already raked in 255 crores gross at the Worldwide Box Office, and managed to make a profit of 382% already. It shattered the lifetime box office earnings of Salman’s “Bodyguard” (148.86 crore) as well broke the worldwide collection record of “Jab Tak Hai Jaan”. The responses ensured that the movie will hold well over the next few weeks.
“A total of Rs 100 crore is virtually guaranteed in 11 days (since release) making it the first bona fide super hit of 2015”
The movie has held well after the opening weekend, which resulted in it collecting as much on weekdays, as during the weekend, which is a rarity in Indian cinema. Adding to positive word of mouth, the ongoing summer vacations have also helped get footfalls for the movie.”
The success of Tanu Weds Manu Returns ascertains few things. Firstly, that our female actors can alone be big crowdpullers at the ticket windows. Also, since female star charges much lesser than her male counterpart, a film like Tanu Weds Manu Returns makes so much more money for its producers than if it had been made with a big male star with the same box office numbers. And last but not the least, a film with great content marketed right as rain certainly mounts in the pink.
