After three days of release, Jolly LLB 2’s box-office collection stands at Rs 50.51 crore. Its release this past Friday marks the end of the honeymoon period of the Republic Day releases, Sanjay Gupta’s revenge drama Kaabil and Rahul Dholakia’s Raees in the box-office war. The word of mouth, coupled with the success engine of Akshay Kumar, seems to be the driving force behind this film at the box office.
While both Raees and Kaabil were bloody action dramas, Jolly LLB 2 is a courtroom comedy that is a satire on the Indian legal system. While Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan had a cold war leading up to the release of Raees and Kaabil, Jolly LLB 2 had virtually no competition at the box office.
Kaabil a well knitted rape-andrevenge combo that was not seen for a while in big budget Bollywood with safe love stories stands at a total collection of Rs 133.07 crore on nineteen-day box-office while Sharukh Khan starrer Raees stands at a total nineteen-day box-office collection of Rs 164.42 crore.
Subhash Kapoor’s courtroom drama Jolly LLB 2 seems to be on its way to become the third highest grosser of this year.
Writer-director Subhash Kapoor deep study of the India’s burgeoning legal system substantiates the character of Jolly as a novice indulging in petty crimes because he knows the loopholes in the law. The plot has enough laugh-out-loud situations and emotional outbursts to keep you invested throughout the movie. Akshay Kumar puts up a perfect display of a street-smart lawyer who hasn’t read through the heavy legal volumes but who has instead picked up tips from courtroom corridors to become Jolly LLB. It is the fine display of theatrics by all these refined actors, which makes the movie, worth seeing.
