Harsh Neotia

Harshavardhan Neotia was born and brought up in Kolkata where he attended La Martiniere Calcutta School for boys. He did his B. Com. (Hons) from St Xaviers College, Kolkata, and has completed the Owner President Management Program (OPM) from Harvard Business School.

He is the founder and chairman of one of the first joint sector companies in India – Bengal Ambuja Housing Development Limited – in partnership with the government of West Bengal. The idea behind this was to promote social housing development in urban India. Under his guidance, the Ambuja Realty Group has developed many properties across India. He is also the pioneer of modern Public–Private Partnership (PPP) housing system in Kolkata. His company has developed many modern and posh real estate projects in West Bengal including Udayan, The Condoville / Swissotel Kolkata, Neotia Vista and Ganga Kutir. He held esteemed positions such as the post of former chairman, CII-Eastern India, member of the Board of Governors of IIM Kolkata, member of the Board of Trade of the Government of India, member of Rajasthan Foundation & Nathdwara Temple Board and member of Heritage Commission, government of West Bengal. It was Neotia who diversified the family business into real estate development.

Neotia has served as the managing director of Ambuja Cement Eastern Ltd. He serves as chairman of Ganapati Parks Limited, Ambuja Housing And Urban Infrastructure Company Limited, Ambuja Realty Development Limited, AIPL Ambuja Housing and Urban Infrastructure Limited and Neotia Elbit Hospital Venture Limited. He serves as a director of GGL Hotel And Resort Company Limited, Bengal Ambuja Metro Development Limited and Luxmi Township Limited. He has been an independent director of Air India Limited since March 2010. He served as a director of Energy Development Co. Ltd. from June 6, 2002 to July 25, 2011. Neotia has served as nonexecutive director of Ambuja Cements Limited between 1995 and January, 2006.

Bengal Ambuja Housing Development Limited’s maiden project Udayan was declared a Model Housing Project by the Government of India. He was conferred the Padma Shri Award in 1999 for his outstanding initiative in the field of social housing. He has been awarded with Young Presidents’ Organisation YPO Legacy of Honour Award and works as the Honorary Consul of Israel in Kolkata.
