Born to lyricist and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar and scriptwriter and director Honey Irani, Farhan has always lived in and around artistic scene for all his life.
Akhtar, after establishing a production company named Excel Entertainment along with Ritesh Sidhwani, made his directorial debut with Dil Chahta Hai and received critical acclaim for portraying modern youth. The film as well wins a National award. He has magnificently conquered the industry from India’s first urban fill out film directed and produced, to singing-acting in Rock On for which he win a 2nd National Award for Best characteristic Film in Hindi. The performance was acclaimed to be flawless by most critics and the film was a huge box office success, also establishing Farhan as a successful singer winning him accolades. Akhtar became the go-to for the cosmo male lead. He redefined and added an extra to his badge with his rustic role that of Olympian athlete and Army man Milkha Singh in the biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Various awards show conferred accolades to Mr. Akhtar. His directorial ventures of 2006 and 2011, Don and Don 2, which are remake series of Amitabh Bachchan’s Don of the 70s, were both box office hits.
