Datuk Wira Eric Tan Eng Huat
Datuk Wira Eric Tan Eng Huat is the chairman of Hatten Group Sdn Bhd which was established in 2008 by him and his son Colin Tan June Teng who is the managing director of the group. Hatten Group Sdn Bhd is Malaysia’s fastest growing property developer which has made a serious impact on the country’s real estate sector. The group is involved in property development, strategic management and investment. Hatten means “growth” and “development” in Japanese. Rising from humble beginnings, the duo gained prominence when they took on the challenge to turn around an abandoned project in Melaka, Malaysia. It was a risk that no one else in the industry wanted to take as the project required massive capital injection with a perceived low success rate.
Armed with firm resolution and great foresight that Melaka’s tourism industry will grow, the father-and-son team went against all odds to develop the Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall (DPMM). DPMM, currently the biggest mall in Melaka with a gross development of 2 million square feet, is a major attraction in Melaka, a UNESCO World Heritage City that draws millions of foreign and local visitors every year.
In less than five years, the Hatten Group has carved out a name for itself in the property development sector in Malaysia, being counted amongst Malaysia’s “Top Property Developers 2012-2013” by iProperty.com. Under the leadership of Datuk Wira Eric Tan Eng Huat, the group aims to achieve its vision of being one of the top ten largest property developers by 2020. Working towards this goal, the group has brought together a team of experienced professionals with expertise from various fields to form the mid-level management cadre of its companies.
Hatten Group has since rolled out the first phase of the Hatten City that has redefined contemporary and sustainable living in the historical city. Boasting a gross development value of USD 620 million, Hatten City will be the heartbeat of Melaka, equipped with amenities, infrastructure and commercial opportunities.
