Bombay Hospital has a unique proposition. It is a Public Charitable Trust Hospital, which is a self-generating revenue model, as there are no grants received from the government and donations have dried out over the years. The hospital generates its own revenue from patients and this money is later used for subsidising the treatment for the poor and also for upgrading the infrastructure in the hospital and for the purpose of building new hospitals. The emphasis is always on quality, affordable treatment and imparting training for Post Graduate Doctors and B.Sc. & M.Sc. Nurses.

Bombay Hospital aka BHIMS (Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences – Mumbai) was founded in 1952 by R.D. Birla. It serves with 720 beds, 110 of which are in the critical care and recovery area. It also holds 24 operation theatres and has 2,800 full-time employees, 240 eminent consultants, 200 skilled resident doctors available round the clock in the campus. The hospital has some of the country’s most advanced diagnostic & surgical expertise and offers a comprehensive range of specialised medical services. About 33 per cent of the patients treated in the general ward will have to pay only for their medicines and consumables. The free OPD at the hospital successfully treats in excess of 1,00,000 patients each year. Bombay Hospital has instilled in its patients a sense of genuine trust – trust that has been built by combining superior medical treatment with a caringly humane attitude.
