Vijay-starrer Sarkar’s problem scenes to be cut?

After the AIADMK’s cadre went on a rampage, tearing up posters of Vijay-starrer Sarkar at theatres across the State, the scenes in the film critical of the State’s welfare schemes could well be edited out.

While Sun Pictures, producers of the film, did not comment on the demand of AIADMK leaders, including Ministers, that the controversial scenes be dropped, Tirupur Subramaniam, a prominent distributor and president, Tamil Nadu Exhibitors’ Association, said that the scenes critical of the government’s marquee schemes would be removed from the matinee show onwards on Friday. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Subramaniam said that he had already spoken to the representatives of Sun Pictures. “I expect the film to be edited at night and re-censored by Friday. The scenes that are critical of government schemes will not be there in the matinee show tomorrow,” he added.

Thursday saw protests by AIADMK workers in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore. They objected to scenes showing people throwing freebies like mixers and grinders, given by the government, into a bonfire, dialogues against welfare schemes, and also naming a corrupt politician Komalavalli, which they said was the original name of former CM Jayalalithaa.
