APPLAUDED WITH TIED HANDS

A captivating romantic story to agonize box office numbers? BY PRATIKSHA KAPOOR

Well another Ali’s movie that leaves the audiences and critics pensive. Tamasha is a well seethed frivolous romantic story from an ambiguous story teller. It beautifully encrypts the societal constructs that engages and probably paralyses one’s own wants and dearth in a superficially blended world.

Directorially, Imtiaz Ali has made the movie truly an experience with picturesque bistros, captivating countryside, sparkling blue waters, colorfully dressed natives and two of the most interesting actors in Bollywood conveying the existence of imperfections and edges in our regular relationships with conviction.

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer that released across 1077 screens in India has got good collection till second week at the box office. In its first week, ‘Tamasha’ saw business of Rs. 52.93 crores net approx and in the second week the collections dropped to Rs. 10.81 crores net approx which is very low compared to the first week.

The film is facing very minimal competition as there were no new releases planned around coming weekends. This can be a reason that has boosted its performance over its third weekend at the box office. Also, both the actors extolled their intrigued chemistry, owing to which the film got good word of mouth. The film has managed its current total to Rs. 63.53 crores net approx by the end of the second week.

‘Tamasha‘ with its stagnant pace is expected to finish at Rs. 68 crores net approx which doesn’t talk much of its commercial success, but once again Imtiaz Ali proves he’s THE STORYTELLER. Every single frame of this film has been beautifully woven into the screenplay enacted by most high spirited and fervent actors.

Currently, we wait to see its lifetime business at the box office after its immutable impact on audiences across cities and before ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani‘ releases.
